Advan Matthew was born in 1988. Having spent almost most of his life living and breathing music, he occupied his entire high school life juggling between jazz band, orchestra, chorus and show choir back in Maine, USA. Nevertheless, when he was in university, it came to his senses that his love of photography was extravagant. Majoring in commerce, he lived in two different worlds: being a university student and working as a polaroid photographer in an Australian modelling agencies. He graduated in 2010 and moved back to Jakarta to work as a full-time photographer. Claiming fashion as his intereat, he has been involved in a series of well-known editorial assignments from the big magazines, including Harper's Bazaar, Grazia, Elle and Cosmopolitan.
Advan’s current works revolve around beauty and commercial because his affection has shifted yet expanded; from taking beauty and fashion photos to directing video. Having showcased 9 exhibitions, his main interest is and has always been woman and any subject that embodies feminine persona. Greatly influenced by Italian fashion and photography style such as Steven Meisel, Sarah Moon, and Irving Penn; his works were handpicked by Franca Sozzani of Vogue Italia to be showcased in Bologna, Italy as part of an exhibition with L'Oreal Italia.
